Our client wanted to make the most of their location across the street from the Chagrin River. Getting a view from backyard would pose some challenges, but we were up for it.
The backyard had an existing old deck that was in need of some maintenance. It was decided that a total tear out would be the best approach since that would open up the possibility for a completely new design.
A single-level design gave the client the most usable space, and we inlaid borders going in opposite directions to more clearly define the different areas of the deck. Extending the deck beyond the side of the house complicated the design, but it was essential to the goal of allowing views of the river. It’s not very often that a deck is designed to stick out beyond the side of the house. In this case, the view across the street was exactly what our client wanted so in order to make it appealing from the street, we designed an octagon at the side of the deck that included a fire-pit with built-in benches surrounding it.
The new deck was constructed with low-maintenance decking materials and low-voltage deck lighting. The lights offer a warm glow in the evenings and are visible from the street as well, which ties in nicely with the existing low-voltage landscape lights.
Now the beauty of the Chagrin River can be enjoyed from this Trex composite deck both day and night.
